Dr. JeDon Emenhiser is Professor Emeritus at Humboldt State University. He earned his bachelor's degree cum laude from the University of Redlands in 1955 emphasizing government and economics and received his doctorate from the University of Minnesota in political science and American Studies in 1962. Also, as an undergraduate he participated in the Washington Semester Program at American University.
He served on the faculties of the University of Redlands, Utah State University, Colgate University, Humboldt State University, Junior State Summer School (Stanford University), and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (Eureka) teaching American politics and culture, constitutional law, and research methods.
In each class he helped students learn how to think ethically and knowledgeably about American government and politics by learning to ask questions, find requisite sources of information, and develop skills to describe, analyze, evaluate, and communicate political ideas.
He received Fulbright professorships to the University of Saigon, Viet-Nam, and to the Universite de Mons, Belgium. In addition he was staff director of the Legislative Study Committee of the Utah Legislature, director of the Bureau of Government and Opinion Research, co-chair of the Logan City Commission on Reorganization, visiting scholar at the Congressional Research Service, visiting fellow in the Faculty of Arts at the National University of Ireland, Galway, visiting professor for the University of Utah in Europe at Ramstein Air Base, and visiting professor in the inter-university American Studies master's program in Belgium.
He worked as academic dean and contributed to professional and community affairs, coordinator of the HSU Emeritus and Retired Faculty Association, president of California State University Social Science Research and Instructional Council, president of Humboldt Connections assisting youth at risk, Faculty Associate for the College Board, elder of the Eureka First Presbyterian Church, member of the education committee of Humboldt ACLU, and gleaner for the McKinleyville Family Resource Center Food Pantry.
His honors include membership in Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa, Academic Fellow of the American Council on Education, and a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow. He is the author of two books, many government reports, several chapters in professional publications, and numerous articles in scholarly journals.
