Previously honored among the 20 People Who Make an Impact in Washington, D.C., Indira Henard was notably presented with a Victim Impact Award from the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences.

As the child of a social worker, Ms. Henard naturally gravitated toward a career in helping people, initially working on political campaigns as a result. Contributing to then-Senator Barack Obama in his senate office and, later, on his presidential campaign, she later began volunteering for the D.C. Rape Crisis Center, where she eventually accepted a full-time position. Currently, she excels as the executive director for the D.C. Rape Crisis Center. With the growth of the #MeToo Movement, Ms. Henard is especially proud of the crucial efforts she has provided to those in need on behalf of the Center.
An expert in her field, Ms. Henard pursued an education at Wheaton College, obtaining an undergraduate degree. She later concluded her studies with a Master of Arts from the National Catholic School of Social Services at the Catholic University of America. Throughout her career, Ms. Henard has contributed her expertise to a number of published articles, including one on the assault of Recy Taylor.
In a career filled with many important and impactful moments, Ms. Henard fondly recalls becoming recognized as a Congressional Truman fellow on Capitol Hill and a Charles Hamilton Houston fellow by the Georgetown Law Center. Previously honored among the 20 People Who Make an Impact in Washington, D.C., she was notably presented with a Victim Impact Award from the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences and an Alumni Achievement Award from Catholic University of America. Looking toward the future, Ms. Henard intends to continue working for the D.C. Rape Crisis Center and is planning to help them celebrate their 50th anniversary.
