Dr. Immoos followed parallel paths in her studies of classical voice and psychology since she was a student at the California State University Sacramento in the mid-1960's. Her vocal studies led her to New England Conservatory of Music, and the Mozarteum (the music conservatory in Salzburg, Austria). While singing at the Lucerne City Opera (in Switzerland), she was inspired to integrate tenets from both areas, and enrolled at the University of Vienna in psychology, later receiving a Master's degree from the University of Innsbruck in 1990 and a doctorate from the University of Vienna in psychology in 1993.Living in Zurich, Switzerland, she founded the Center for the Psychology of Voice (1993), where she oversaw research in the areas of vocal behavior and emotionality. She conducted experiments both on adults and on K-6 grade children, leading research teams in the development of methods that integrated elements from both classical singing and psychology to augment a number of psychotherapeutic methods and relaxation strategies.
In order to remain aware of changes in both of her fields, Dr. Immoos was a member of the Voice Foundation and the Swiss Federation of Psychologists (1993-2003). After returning to the U.S. in 2003, Dr. Immoos has worked as a psychologist and senior psychologist specialist in a Statewide Mental Health Program, where she developed and implemented the Psychology Internship Program, for she produced a series of diagnostic manuals, group therapy toolkits and other training materials.
With a plethora of knowledge at her disposal, she has also authored a number of articles, including "Reduced Bone Strength and Muscle For in Women 27 Years After Anorexia Nervosa," which was published in the International Journal of Endocrinology (2015). Dr. Immoos is a sought-after teacher and trainer of mental health providers and non-professionals alike. She is looking toward the future, intending to retire and return to Switzerland where she will open a life coaching practice. Since 2013, she has held an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credential, which was issued by the International Coach Federation.
