ShinHwa Li, Ph.D., Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Dr. ShinHwa Li has contributed more than 55 papers to various scholarly journals, such as the Journal of Crystal Growth and the Journal of Electronic Materials.

Dr. Li is a tenured product manager who has been employed with Kurt J. Lesker Company in Jefferson Hill, PA, for the past six years. Working for several great companies during his career, he formerly worked as both a program and product manager for Heraeus in Chandler, AZ. He was also a continuous improvement manager for Novellus in Chandler, process support engineer for Applied Materials in Chandler, applications engineer for EKC Technology in Hayward, CA, process engineer for STMicroelectronics in Phoenix,AZ, and quality control engineer for Ko-Shen Enterprises Ltd. in Taipei, Taiwan. Dr. Li spent several years as a research assistant at the University of Michigan, the University of Utah and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette as well.

Interested in physics since he was a young boy, Dr. Li excelled in the subject during high school, giving him the foundation to think and apply himself in the field years later. Although he initially focused his career on chemical engineering, he soon after switched to semiconductor materials research, where he has thrived. Dr. Li also taught as an instructor at ITT Technical Institute in Tempe, AZ, during 2004 and at GateWay Community College in Phoenix during 1999.

Dr. Li is a longstanding member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Minerals, Metals and Materials Society, and the Chinese American Semiconductor Professional Association. He also chaired the Phoenix chapter of the Chinese American Semiconductor Professional Association between 2000 and 2002. Locally, Dr. Li has served as the president and deacon at the Chinese School of the Greater Phoenix Chinese Christian Church between 2005 and 2007.

Writing extensively in his field, Dr. Li has contributed more than 55 papers to various scholarly journals, such as the Journal of Crystal Growth and the Journal of Electronic Materials. In 2000, he authored his first book, "Chemical Mechanical Polishing in Silicon Processing" through Academic Press. He has participated in four invited talks and holds 13 patent/trade secrets in his field.

Honored in 1991 with a Best Student Paper Award from the Electronic Materials Conference, Dr. Li also received a Technical Excellence Award from STMicroelectronics in 1997 and a CMP Productivity Appreciation Award from Applied Materials in 2001. He has been cited in the 23rd edition of Who's Who in the West.

Dr. Li received a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from National Central University in Taiwan in 1980 and a Master of Science in chemical engineering at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 1985. He then attended the University of Utah, where he earned both a Master of Engineering in materials science in 1988 and a Doctor of Philosophy in materials science in 1990. After receiving his bachelor's degree, Dr. Li notably served as a liaison officer in the Taiwanese Marine Corps with the Republic of China between 1980 and 1982.

Born in Taipei, Dr. Li came to the United States in 1983. He married his wife Yina Li that same year and since had two children, Crystal and Jason. Grateful to be living in a country that has given him more freedom in the engineering field and has also enabled his children to be equally successful, he said that immigrating was one of the best decisions he has ever made.
