A psychologist and mental health administrator who has devoted more than 40 years to the profession, Dr. Odor has been the owner of his own private practice, Richard L. Odor, PhD, Inc., in Reynoldsburg, Ohio since 1998, specializing in several areas, including individual, marital and family psychotherapy and the treatment of depression, anxiety disorders, trauma, and post-traumatic stress disorder. In 2018, he retired after 16 years as the president of Achieve Performance Consultants, Inc. in Reynoldsburg and 15 years as Senior Consultant for the Global Consulting Partnership, Inc. in Wayne, PA. Other appointments to Dr. Odor's credit include private practice as a psychologist associated with Psychological and Counseling Services in Reynoldsburg 1989 to 1998, as a psychologist and program director for Southeast Counseling Services in Columbus, and as both an emergency services counselor and, then, Director of Emergency Services for the Southeast Community Mental Health Center in Columbus.
While working full-time for Psychological and Counseling Services, Dr. Odor simultaneously owned Psychological and Recovery Services in Columbus between 1991 and 1994. Appointed to the professional advisory committee for Mount Carmel Behavioral Healthcare from 1998 to 1999, he found success as a psychologist and clinical supervisor for New Source Counseling Centers in Twinsburg, Ohio from 1990 to 1997 and as the employee assistance program Affiliate for McDonnell Douglas Corporation in Columbus from 1992 to 1994. Dr. Odor has excelled as a longtime staff member at the Grant Medical Center, a non-profit, faith-based healthcare system and trauma center in Columbus, since 1995.
A longstanding member of the Ohio Psychological Association, Dr. Odor is also a member and a former credentialing committee member for Interact Behavioral Healthcare. He formerly contributed on the professional advisory board of the Central Ohio chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society between 1995 and 1997. He was a member of the Reynoldsburg-Pickerington Rotary Club 1991 to 2007, where he was a Paul-Harris Fellow and served on the Board of Directors. Dr. Odor is affiliated USA Weightlifting and several honor societies.
A pre-med student in college, Dr. Odor changed his major to psychology due to his desire to focus more on individuals and families. Earning a Bachelor's degree, a Master's degree and a Doctor of Philosophy at the Ohio State University between 1974 and 1986, he also completed coursework at the Moody Bible Institute between 1972 and 1974. A competitive Olympic-style weightlifter, his best competition lift was a 363-pound clean & jerk in the 198 lb. bodyweight class in 1984 after 17 years of training. Associated with The Ohio State University Weightlifting Club as a member from 1974 to 1985, he was the Weightlifting team coach from 1982 to 1985 and Faculty Advisor from 1984 to 1985. Dr. Odor coached the non-collegiate Weightlifting team at The Ohio State University to win the state championship in 1984.
A certified National Referee for USA Weightlifting, Inc. since 2007, Dr. Odor notably accepted several awards in weightlifting. In 1999, he was presented with a Silver Medal from the International Weightlifting Federation at the Pan American Masters Weightlifting Championships. He also obtained a Bronze Medal in 2000, Gold Medal in 2003 and 2004, Gold Medal at the National Masters Championships in 2005 and Bronze Medals at the World Masters Championships in 2007 in Hungary and in 2009 in Australia. For his accomplishments, Dr. Odor has been featured in more than 30 editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare and Who's Who in the World.
