Dr. Mary Ann Chudy Levy earned a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg in 1964 where she was one of only three women to finish her training.
LAKEWOOD, CO, April 24, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Mary Ann Chudy Levy, MD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Levy celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements in patient care, supervision and teaching, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Levy is a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst with more than 45 years of experience. She is a clinical professor of psychiatry at the Anschutz Medical Campus of the University of Colorado since 1972. She is a training and supervising analyst for the Denver Institute for Psychoanalysis, a non-profit educational and research organization focused on increasing the quality of mental health education and treatment in Colorado. For excellence in her career, Dr. Levy was presented with a Certificate of Achievement from the University of Colorado in 2000 and has been cited in the 65th edition of Who's Who in America.
A past president and current member of the Denver Psychoanalytic Society, Dr. Levy is also a longstanding member of the American Psychiatric Association and the American Psychoanalytic Association. She has received multiple teaching awards during her long career and has given many presentations on multiple topics in a variety of settings. She received the Brandt Steele Award in 2001 for her community outreach efforts and teaching after she provided leadership in organizing the society to provide mental health serviced for the traumatized community after the Columbine High School shootings. She authored an article in the Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association in February 2004 titled "Healing After Columbine: Reflections of Psychoanalytic Responders to Community Trauma" on her experience after the 1999 shooting. Dr. Levy was responsible for organizing the response from the Denver Psychoanalytic Society to provide immediate emotional aid to the students and the school system from highly skilled volunteers, who continued their work with the community for over a year. Dr. Levy notes her interest in dealing with post-traumatic stress developed slowly. When Dr. Levy was very young, her father suffered a terrible illness and nearly died. He discharged himself from the hospital to treat himself at home when he was denied treatment by the hospital. Inspired by her father's strength and perseverance but puzzling over his personality changes as a result of the trauma, Dr. Levy decided to pursue a career where she could help those who needed it. Notably, she earned a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg in 1964 where she was one of only three women to finish her training. She became certified in psychiatry through the University of Cincinnati in Ohio and was later certified in psychoanalysis through the Denver Institute of Psychoanalysis were she was the first woman to graduate from the program.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Dr. Levy has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
