Ms. Mallett founded Applied Business Insights, LLC in January 2019, a small personalized business consultancy built on the core concept that applying relevant insights in a unique and customized way to every client enables a well-grounded basis for business breakthroughs and accelerated growth, following her retirement as an insurance company executive with over 30 years of service. Originally joining Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in 1979, she advanced to Assistant Vice President in 1989, was named Vice President in 1998 and served in that role until her retirement in late 2018. MetLife is among the largest global providers of insurance, annuities and employee benefit programs.
Throughout her tenure with Met Life, Ms. Mallett's career was both remarkable and unusual, characterized by consistently serving in newly established roles or leading new business initiatives rather than following others into existing assignments or established positions. As a result, she experienced developing new ideas and bringing practical solutions to a variety of customers and markets in the US. Throughout her career, she credits developing a knack for being able to explain very complex matters in a simplified way as a key factor in her success.
Ms. Mallett represented MetLife on the ACLI's Retirement Plans Committee from 2012 - 2018, was a senior partner at Wharton's Pension Research Council and has served on both The SPARK Institute's Advisory Board and the Defined Contribution Institutional Investment Association's (DCIIA) Executive Committee. She presently serves on DCIIA's Editorial Review Board. She is an experienced public speaker and a published contributing author on institutional retirement plan matters, most recently as co-author of "Strengthening Retirement Outcomes" published by Institutional Investor Journals.
While in school, Ms. Mallett signed up to interview for a brand-new rotational management training program through Met Life. A three-year program and only in its first year at the time, the opportunity offered the ability for trainees to rotate throughout a variety of the organization's business areas. Accepted to participate, she completed her degree and joined the firm. Ms. Mallett notably studied at Connecticut College in 1977 and 1978 before receiving a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, from Mount Holyoke College in 1979. She is a chartered life underwriter and served as a Financial Industry Regulatory Authority registered principal from 1996-2018.
In honor of her career, Ms. Mallett has been included in the 17th edition of Who's Who of American Women. A member of the Mount Holyoke Club of Boston, Ms. Mallett also enjoys spending her free time sailing and horseback riding.
