Dr. Phillips is a gastroenterologist and educator who operated out of his private practice in Washington, D.C., between 1974 and 2016. During his years in medicine, he also held appointments as both a gastroenterologist and the chief of the division of gastroenterology at the Malcolm Grow Medical Clinics and Surgery Center for the United States Air Force between 1972 and 1974. Although he no longer practices medicine, Dr. Phillips continues to teach as a clinical professor at the School of Medicine & Health Sciences at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C., since 2001.
Since 1989, Dr. Phillips has been on the Editorial Advisory Board of Practical Reviews in Gastroenterology, EBIX/Oakstone Publishers. He has also been a to the United States Social Security Administration in Washington, D.C., since 1976. Early in his career, he notably served as a major in the United States Air Force from 1970 to 1972. An elected fellow of the American College of Physicians, Dr. Phillips has previously been featured in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who in the World.
Dr. Phillips earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Brooklyn College, City University of New York City, Brooklyn, NY in 1962. He earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from The State University of New York at Buffalo, School of Medicine, Buffalo, New York in 1967. He soon after interned at the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, completed his residency in internal medicine at the Montefiore Medical Center in New York City as well as a fellowship in gastroenterology at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and a second fellowship in liver disease at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. Dr. Phillips is board certified by the American Board of Gastroenterology and the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Dr. Phillips later married his wife Barbara Mary Posner in 1966. He is the proud father of two children and grandfather to three grandchildren. In his free time, Dr. Phillips enjoys oenology, which is the science and study of wine and winemaking, as well as travel.
