Dr. Mandana Veiseh co-founded Polybiomics in support of a vision to change live cell analysis tools and knowledge in 2017.

PIEDMONT, CA, May 07, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Mandana Veiseh, Ph.D., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Veiseh celebrates many years of experience in her professional network and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

After 15 years of professional experience and mapping new frontiers in engineering, translational medicine, and science, Dr. Veiseh co-founded Polybiomics in support of a vision to change live cell analysis tools and knowledge in 2017. Besides her primary roles as president and chief technology officer, she has been an affiliate scientist with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) since 2014. At LBNL, she was president of the Early Career Scientists Society and a technology track leader of Biosciences' 10-years strategic plan implementation in 2013, a scientist (2012 to 2014), and a research fellow of the National Cancer Institute (2008 to 2011). Prior to Polybiomics, she was a senior scientist and area manager (2014 to 2016) at the Electronic Materials and Devices lab of Palo Alto Research Center (PARC), a Xerox Company. Here, she led new inventions, developed new projects, launched a biomixer, and assisted in formation of a new area, and a number of grants, projects, and business developments. Earlier in her career, she was a technical co-founder, co-inventor, and advisor at Presage Biosciences, Inc.

Influenced by scholastic rigors of her father and strong women among family and friends, she realized the importance of higher education since the age of 14 and graduated with honors at multiple levels of trainings. Dr. Veiseh completed a dual Ph.D. degree in Materials Science & Engineering and Nanotechnology through a fellowship on cell-based biosensors among University of Washington (UW), Advanced Light Source Division of LBNL, and UC Berkeley in 2004. She received her undergraduate (1995) and graduate (1998) degrees from Amirkabir University of Technology and Isfahan University of Technology (IUT) in Textile Chemistry Engineering, through thesis research with Ciba Geigy, Inc. and IUT electrical engineering department, respectively. She is certified as a materials mentor by ASM International, and a surface characterizer of biomaterials by National Electron Spectroscopy for Chemical Analysis and Surface Analysis Center for Biomedical Problems. She is trained for strategic management via a Stanford University extension program and by working with well-versed members of academia, industry, and national laboratories.

During her first postdoctoral work at the clinical research division of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, she led and completed the Tumor Paint project (2004 to 2007), which resulted in formation of the Blaze Bioscience company. Among her notable accomplishments, Dr. Veiseh is well renowned for her discovery of invasive but slow-growing tumorigenic cell subsets in tumors. In addition to pioneering work on polybiosensing platforms for cell health and function, she holds multiple patents for a number of scientific breakthroughs, including cyanine chlorotoxin conjugate and a method for intra-operative visualization of cancer and needle array assemblies for delivering a plurality of therapeutic agents and related methods. She also holds patents for Rhamm, a co-receptor, and its interactions with other receptors in cancer cell motility, and the identification of cancer progenitor cell populations. Furthermore, she holds patents for arrays and methods for guided cell patterning on gold/silicon chips.

Throughout her life, Dr. Veiseh has paralleled career and athletic activities. Besides swimming championships, lifeguarding, instructing and refereeing, she has been recognized for her multidisciplinary publications and inventions. She was selected into the Frontiers of Engineering (FOE) program of National Academy of engineering (NAE) in 2017 and 2015. The recipient of the Outstanding Performance Award from LBNL, Exceptional Performance Award from PARC, and Outstanding Graduate Award from Society of Women Engineers, she was also a Jordyn Dukelow fellow of the Guild Association. Mandana has been featured in honors publications, including the 70th edition of Who's Who in America. She enjoys outdoor family time, music, dance, reading and cooking with her young daughter.

Mandana believes that the power of original thinking and resilience is self-evident and contagious. On these grounds, she has been devoted to institutional and community services. These include: mentoring diverse fellows to succeed outside the classrooms such as STEM training or prepare for professional world; contribution to programs that hone students' purpose and drive for cross-disciplinary careers by helping them receive National or University fellowships; review of national programs, grants, and publications. Some of her contributions include: UW Engineering Dean's fund and Alumni Association fund for excellence, Local Control and Accountability Plan, Girls Leadership, B-Bay High School Entrepreneurship, NAE Independent Fund, President's Initiatives Fund, EngineerGirl, FOE, Grand Challenges for Engineering, American Association for the Advancement of Science, and Committee on Human Rights.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Dr. Veiseh has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
