Dr. Siegelman is a professor emeritus of radiology who taught at Johns Hopkins University for 44 years, beginning in 1973, becoming emeritus in 2017. During his tenure, he was the director of diagnostic radiology at the university from 1973 to 1986. He formerly spent three years as an associate professor of radiology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine from 1970 to 1973. Dr. Siegelman remains an active member of the clinical teaching faculty and his priceless insights from an illustrious career continue to inspire residents on a daily basis.
An accomplished author in his field, Dr. Siegelman co-authored "The Lungs in Systemic Disease" in 1969 and "Computed Tomography of the Thorax" in 1984. Involved with a number of professional journals as well, he served as a consultant for the Journal of Urology between 1975 and 1983. A highlight of his career occurred in 1986 when Dr. Siegelman was appointed Editor of Radiology. During his 12 year tenure he helped to establish Radiology as the leading international journal of radiological science. Furthermore, Dr. Siegelman has notably contributed more than 350 papers to various publications, as well as nine monographs.
A founding member of the International Skeletal Society and the North American Society for Cardiovascular Radiology, Dr. Siegelman is also a fellow of the American College of Radiology. He is a member and past president of the Society of Computed Body Tomography & Magnetic Resonance and a longtime member of the Association of University Radiologists, the Radiological Society of North America, where he received several magna cum laude awards between 1975 and 1981, the American Roentgen Ray Society and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Furthermore, Dr. Siegelman is an honorary member of the European Society of Radiology, the French Society of Radiology and the German Radiological Society.
Honored with multiple different awards throughout his career, Dr. Siegelman has received Gold Medals from the Radiological Society of North America, the American Roentgen Ray Society and the Society of Computed Body Tomography & Magnetic Resonance. He was also the recipient of a Grubbe Memorial Award from the Chicago Radiologic Society and a Harry Z. Mullins Teaching Award from the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center. In light of all his accomplishments, Dr. Siegelman has been cited in the 44th and 46th editions of Who's Who in America.
Prior to embarking on his career, Dr. Siegelman received a Bachelor of Arts at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, in 1953 and Doctor of Medicine at the State University of New York in New York City in 1957. Joining the United States Army while he was in medical school, he interned at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., from 1957 to 1958. Following these accomplishments, he spent three years at Fort Meade Army Hospital from 1958 to 1961. While he was there, he enjoyed many different positions and had the opportunity to explore the importance of radiology. Dr. Siegelman went on to complete his residency in radiology at the Montefiore Medical Center in New York City from 1961 to 1964 and became certified by the American Board of Radiology in 1965.
