Backed by 59 years of professional excellence, Prof. Hattar serves as a teacher with Mount San Antonio College and Rio Hondo College. At the start of his career, he joined Don Bosco Technical Institute as a teacher and eventually chairman as well. Over the years, he gained valuable experience in education with Ontario High School and Rancho Cucamonga High School. Additionally, he has spoken at mathematics instruction conferences all around the world, including the U.S.-Russian Joint Conference on Mathematics Education.
An expert in his field, Prof. Hattar holds a Bachelor of Arts from Greenville College and a Master of Science from Western Washington State University. In the late 1980s, he returned to college, pursuing postgraduate studies at the University of Oxford. In order to remain abreast of changes in the field, he maintains affiliation with the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the California Mathematics Council, the San Bernardino County Mathematics Council and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
With a plethora of knowledge at his disposal, Prof. Hattar authored 15 books on the subject of mathematics education (published in Jordan) and is in the process of publishing an additional five books on "Math is Fun." For his excellence in the field, he won a number of awards, including Teacher of the Year through the Industry Education Council of San Gabriel Valley, a Man of the Year Award through the American Arab Society, Teacher of the Year Awards in Southern California and San Bernardino County, and features in such publications as Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the West, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in American Education. In the near future, Prof. Hattar intends to continue parlaying his knowledge of the field to others at Rio Hondo College and Mount San Antonio College.
He has retired three times but his dedication to serving and inspiring future generations has brought him back to the classroom and he continues to teach at the age of 87. His motto is simple, "Always do more, not less."
