Supported by professional experience and a stellar education, Mr. Coppola excelled as a school system administrator for over four decades. He began his career as a teacher with the Seymour Board of Education in Connecticut between 1960 and 1969. During his time, he also attended the University of Connecticut, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1960. Additionally, he enrolled in Southern Connecticut State University and secured a Master of Science in 1965. Mr. Coppola further pursued and received a sixth-year degree from Fairfield University in 1969.
Mr. Coppola continued his career with the Derby Board of Education as an executive director for "Project Improve" from 1969 to 1971 before returning to the Seymour Board of Education as a teacher from 1971 to 1972. Mr. Coppola found further success with the Seymour Board of Education, holding the posts of a principal for Chatfield School and Bungay Elementary School, progressing to an assistant superintendent and eventually a full superintendent from 1984 until his departure in 2002. Civically, he has served on the board of directors for the Parent-Child Resource Center in Shelton, CT, since 1977, as well as the United Way in Ansonia, CT, and the Matthies Foundation in Seymour, CT, from 1989 to 1993.
A member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Mr. Coppola is also affiliated with the Connecticut Association of School Administrators. As a testament to his success, he has been a recipient of the Valley Chamber of Commerce's Gold Seal Award in 1992 and the Liberty Bell Award in 2003. Additionally, he was selected for inclusion in the 47th edition of Who's Who in America. The highlight of Mr. Coppola's career was having taught a class and being evaluated by the students at the end of the year, who praised his teaching skills and thanked him.
