Dr. J. Sue Fletcher's written works include the fifth edition of "Mental Health Nursing."

Prior to embarking upon her professional path, Dr. Fletcher pursued an education at California State University, Fresno, earning a Bachelor of Science in nursing in 1968 and a Master of Science in nursing in 1971. Soon thereafter, she began her career as an instructor and chairman at Modesto Junior College in Modesto, CA from 1973 to 1983. During that time, she also obtained a Doctor of Education from the University of San Francisco in 1980. Dr. Fletcher later worked as a staff nurse for the Scenic General Hospital in Modesto, CA from 1983 to 1990 as well as a professor and the chairperson for the department of physical education and health with the California State University, Stanislaus in Turlock, CA from 2002 to 2015.
Currently, Dr. Fletcher contributes to the university as professor emerita, a designation she has held since 2015. Civically, she served as the president of the Merced City School District Board of Education and the Merced County School Board Association between 1995 and 1997. A published author, her written works include the fifth edition of "Mental Health Nursing." Dr. Fletcher has also contributed as a managing editor for the peer reviewed section of CAHPERD Journal Times and on the board of associate editors for the American Journal of Health Education.
To remain aware of changes in the field, Dr. Fletcher maintains affiliation with the Alliance for Health, the American Association of Health Education, the California Nurses Association, the California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, and the International Family Therapy Association. Additionally, she found success as the Eucharistic minister for Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in Merced, CA. Certified as a registered nurse in the state of California, Dr. Fletcher enjoys traveling in her spare time.
