After obtaining a Bachelor of Science from the University of Massachusetts in 1955, he earned a Master of Science from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1957. Soon thereafter, he graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy from Michigan State University in 1964. Subsequently, Dr. Fellers had found success as a research scientist with the Florida Department of Citrus in Lakeland, FL, from 1964 until his retirement in 1995.
Furthermore, Dr. Fellers has served as the president and the interim vice president for the Lake Region Audubon Society in Winter Haven, FL, as well as a meteorological observer with the United States Army from 1957 to 1959. An expert in the field of food science, he has contributed numerous articles on citrus published in professional journals as well as the Encyclopedia of Food Science and Nutrition. Beyond his primary responsibilities, Dr. Fellers remains active in his efforts with the conservation movement, the preservation of birds, animals and flora, and the environment in general.
As a testament to his success, Dr. Fellers was notably presented with the Blazing Star Award from the Green Horizon Land Trust in 2018. Moreover, he has been selected for inclusion in Who's Who in America. To remain aware of changes in the field, he maintains his affiliation with Phi Tau Sigma, the Honorary Food Science Society and Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Honor Society. Now in retirement, Dr. Fellers enjoys leading nature field trips, teaching ornithology, photography, and dancing in his spare time.
