In 2017, Dr. Patricia E. Gower retired from her position as a full professor, earning the title of professor emeritus at the University of the Incarnate Word.

Dr. Gower built a prolific career with the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, TX, as a professor beginning in 1995 and chair of the department of history from 1997 until 2013. She earned a Doctor of Philosophy in American history from Texas A&M University in 1996. Dr. Gower became involved in her profession because her grandfather and father were interested deeply interested in history. Surrounded by history as a child, she first received her bachelor's degree in 1972 and her MA in 1990. She began teaching while she was still a graduate student at Texas A&M University.
In 2017, Dr. Gower retired from her position as a full professor, earning the title of professor emeritus at the University of the Incarnate Word. Dr. Gower was motivated and inspired by Professor Robert Calvert, who was her dissertation director and a Texas historian. In light of her accomplishments in the field, Dr. Gower was selected for inclusion in the 64th edition of Who's Who in America. However, she cites the highlights of her career to be building the history department at UIW from very few students to over 50. She established the UIW History Club in 1997 and the UIW chapter of the Phi Alpha Theta honor society in 2007. She also received a teaching award from Texas A&M University. She always loved witnessing her students' success and mentoring them so that they could succeed in college.
Dr. Gower has been happily married to her husband Thomas May since 1998. They share four children: Jennifer, Melissa and Travis from her first marriage and Gregory from his first marriage. She is also a proud grandmother of four grandchildren.
