With more than 45 years of professional experience, Mr. Watson has been the owner of Watson Consulting and an appointed minister since 2014. Prior to obtaining his current roles, he was assistant superintendent for administration with Hopewell City Public Schools from 2002 to 2014, and he was an assistant superintendent with Dinwiddie County Public Schools from 1994 to 2002, having been assistant principal since 1991. He previously served as a teacher with Battery Creek High School from 1990 to 1991, principal of Lady's Island Middle School from 1986 to 1990, and a principal with Martinsville City Public Schools from 1984 to 1986, where he was assistant principal from 1980 to 1984 and a teacher from 1970 to 1980.
Mr. Watson began his career as a student with Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in 1970. He continued his studies with the university, receiving a Master of Arts in 1975. He subsequently earned a Specialist of Education degree in 1984. He later completed postgraduate work with the university and with the University of South Carolina from 1986 to 1990.
A respected voice in his areas of interest, Mr. Watson has been affiliated with a number of professional organizations. He is a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the Virginia Association of School Business Officials, the Southeastern Association of School Business Officials and Phi Delta Kappa. Throughout his career, he has been recognized for his contributions. He has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in America and Who's Who in American Education.
