Col. DePriest is a retired military officer and civilian executive, serving 32 years in the Air Force followed by 23 years in industry. Enlisting in the Air Force in 1959, DePriest rose through the ranks to the level of Colonel. Early in his career he navigated B-52 bombers during the Cold War. He flew numerous armed 24-hour missions as part of the nation's nuclear deterrent, which included flying within 60 miles of the North Pole. He said that, as a navigator, he found the long flights over the ice cap especially challenging and rewarding because normal navigation techniques were useless (at the North Pole every direction is South), and special tactics had to be employed. During the Vietnam War, Colonel DePriest flew 129 combat missions, also in the B-52.
Later in his Air Force career, Colonel DePriest used his engineering education to lead exploration of GPS technology to guide missiles, then served as an Air Staff deputy division chief in the Pentagon, led the engineering force at a major Air Force logistics complex and served as the Director of Operations in the Air Force Electronic Combat Office.
Following his retirement from the Air Force, Col. DePriest was a site manager for The Analytic Sciences Corporation, Inc. In 1997 he founded and served as President and CEO of DePriest Associates, Inc., a consulting company that specialized in business development. DePriest Associates assisted defense contractors in finding engineering and logistics opportunities needed by the Department of Defense.
Throughout his career, Col. DePriest has been active with several professional organizations. He is a longstanding member of the Society of Logistics Engineers, the Air Force Association, Mensa, Rotary International, the Association of Old Crows and Tau Beta Pi, the national honorary engineering society. Col. DePriest is also a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
Among his decorations for his military service, Col. DePriest was awarded the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Meritorious Service Medal with Two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Medal with Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Combat Readiness Medal with Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster. He has been featured in close to 40 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the Midwest and Who's Who in the World as well. Col. DePriest studied electrical engineering at Pennsylvania State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering with distinction in 1974 and a Master of Science degree in Electro-optics in 1975 from the Air Force Institute of Technology. He has been rated a Master Navigator by the Air Force and a Certified Professional Logistician by the Society of Logistics Engineers.
