Prior to obtaining her current role, she was a member of the Illinois House of Representatives from 1997 to 2011, a trustee of the Northfield Township from 1993 to 1997, and chair of the department of physical therapy at the Chicago Medical School from 1993 to 1996. In addition to her primary roles, Ms. Coulson was a professor with Chicago Medical School from 1981 to 2002.
Ms. Coulson began her career as a student at Wellesley College, completing coursework from 1972 to 1973. She then joined the University of Kansas, receiving a Bachelor of Science in education in 1976. Later in her career, she earned a Master of Business Administration from the Keller Graduate School of Management in 1985. She subsequently completed postgraduate coursework with the University of Illinois in 1991. Ms. Coulson is a licensed physical therapist in the state of Illinois, and she is certified in physical therapy by Northwestern University.
A respected voice in her areas of interest, Ms. Coulson has been an active leader in her community. She is a member of the American Public Health Association, the American Physical Therapy Association, where she was chief delegate from 1991 to 1993, and the Illinois Physical Therapy Association, where she served as chair of the judicial committee from 1989 to 1991. She has also contributed myriad articles to professional journals in relation to her areas of expertise and maintained involvement with Kiwanis International.
Throughout her career, Ms. Coulson has been recognized for her contributions. She has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in American Nursing, Who's Who in American Politics, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women.
