Since 2003, Dr. Peter L. Halvorson has held the designation of a professor emeritus at the University of Connecticut, Storrs.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts from the Dartmouth College in 1962, Dr. Halvorson enrolled at the University of Cincinnati, where he obtained a Master of Arts in 1965 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1970. Beginning his career as an instructor at the University of Cincinnati between 1965 and 1967, he later worked as a geographer with the United States Army Corps Engineers between 1967 and 1968. Accepting a post as an assistant professor with the University of Northern Colorado from 1968 to 1970, he excelled in a number of capacities with the University of Connecticut, Storrs between 1970 and 2003, such as an assistant professor, an associate professor, a department head, full professor and a special assistant to the president. Since 2003, Dr. Halvorson has held the designation of a professor emeritus at the University of Connecticut, Storrs.
In addition to his primary responsibilities, Dr. Halvorson served as an executive committee member for the University of Connecticut University Senate and the chairperson for the commencement committee at UConn between 1985 and 2002. In addition, he contributed as a member of the Connecticut Central Housing Committee (a statewide body) and the Town Council in Coventry, CT. Dr. Halvorson has found success with his written works as well, having authored the "Atlas of Religious Change in America," "Patterns in Pluralism: A Portrait of American Religions," "Atlas in America," and "The City in the Western Tradition."
As a testament to his success, Dr. Halvorson received the Excellence in Service Award from the University of Connecticut and the American Association of University Professors, as well as the Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award from the University of Connecticut. To remain aware of changes in the field, he maintains a professional affiliation with the American Association of University Professors, the American Geographical Society and the American Association of Geographers. A highlight of Dr. Halvorson's career was being selected as the University of Connecticut Outstanding Faculty Advisor in 2002, as he was especially proud that his students nominated him for the honor.
