In 2011, she was deemed professor emeritus of William Paterson University (WP), an institution with which she was affiliated since 1990. Dr. Collins was the university's department chair and coordinator of the graduate program in public policy and international affairs. Prior to her alignment with WP, she was a member of the core faculty at Walden University from 1990 to 1994. Dr. Collins also held a number of positions with the Graduate Cemter of City University of New York, including executive director of employment policy and research from 1988 to 1990, and research associate from 1986 to 1990. Further, she was an adjunct professor at Brooklyn College from 1988 to 1990.
Apart from her efforts in the field of academia, Dr. Collins was a research associate for the Council on Interracial Books for Children from 1984 to 1985. She was a National Rainbow Coordinator for Jesse Jackson's presidential campaign in 1984 and director of the United Methodist Voluntary Service from 1978 to 1983. Additionally, Dr. Collins was director of communications for the Joint Strategy and Action Committee from 1972 to 1978.
An alumna of Carleton College, Dr. Collins earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1962. She also attended Columbia University, where she earned a Master of Arts in 1967 and Union Institute, through which she earned a PhD in 1987. Her professional affiliations included the American Political Science Association. Additionally, she co-chairs the Columbia University Seminar on Full Employment, Social Welfare and Equity, and maintains involvement with the National Jobs for All Network, and the Global Ecological Integrity Group.
Dr. Collins is an active writer, despite her retirement. In fact, she is the author of "Ubuntu: George M. Houser and the Struggle for Peace and Freedom on Two Continents," which is presently undergoing review for publication.
