Platt with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Platt celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts from Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, AL in 1967, Ms. Platt began her career as a teacher for Lawton Public Schools in Oklahoma during 1968. She continued her professional endeavors with the Cumberland County School District in Fayetteville, NC in 1969, before accepting a position as an associate librarian for Stillman College between 1971 to 1988. Simultaneously, she enrolled at the University of Alabama where she graduated with a Master of Library Science in 1971 and completed postgraduate coursework in 1975. Ms. Platt also pursued postgraduate coursework at Memphis State University in 1989.
Furthermore, Ms. Platt served as a head librarian for Lane College in Jackson, TN from 1988 to 1992, eventually working as an interim library director for Union University in Jackson from 1996 to 1997. She further excelled as the associate professor of library science with Union University until her retirement in 2014. Civically, Ms. Platt has contributed to the board of directors with the Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa as well as the Crime Stoppers Board and the Jackson-Madison Library Board.
A published author, Ms. Platt's written works include "Slide-Tape Program Using Basic Reference," and "A History of African-American Churches in Jackson, Madison County, Tennessee." A testament to her prolific career, she has been the recipient of the Outstanding Young Women of America Award in 1978. She has also been selected for inclusion for multiple editions of Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in the South and Southwest. She has also been affiliated with the Alpha Kappa Alpha for several years. Outside of her professional career, Ms. Platt enjoys traveling, walking, meeting people and reading in her spare time.
