Margaret Jean McKee Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

An accomplished listee, Margaret Jean McKee celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. For 45 years, Ms. McKee has excelled in political service. Her first time volunteering in the field was in the campaign office of Prescott Bush, father of President G.H.W. Bush, who ran for senator in Connecticut. At the start of her career, she served in the business and professional division of the New York Finance Committee of Eisenhower's 1952 presidential campaign. From there, she became a staff assistant for the New York Republican State Committee for Eisenhower's administration. From 1959 to 1960, she served as the executive director of New Yorkers for Nixon and Lodge. Later, she excelled as the King County chair of the Eisenhower re-election campaign. Following this, she was involved with the Rockefeller re-election campaign and in 1966 was the director of scheduling for Governor Rockefeller.

Ms. McKee has dedicated her time and talent to a post as the deputy campaign manager for Senator Javits in 1968 and became director of scheduling for the New York 1972 presidential re-election campaign. She also had the honor of working as the deputy campaign manager for both Perry Duryea's New York governor campaign and as director of scheduling for Charles Goodell's senate campaign. In 1980, she found success as the director of strategy and planning in Connecticut with the Reagan and Bush campaign. Notably, she has volunteered or been staff in 18 political campaigns total, 16 of which were in New York.

Outside of these roles, Ms. McKee completed work in the private and nonprofit sectors. She fundraised for Radio Free Europe through her position as public relations and press staff with the Crusade for Freedom. Moreover, she served as the director of government relations for a division of General Mills Corporation, as a board member of an affiliate of the Colonial Penn Insurance Company, and as partner and treasurer of the polling and candidate advisory firm Consensus Inc. Subsequently, she began service as a researcher for Stricker and Henning, a firm that advises corporations on economic and substantive policy issues.

In 1969 Ms. Mckee joined Senator Javits's Washington, DC, staff becoming head of the staff in 1973. Her first Presidential appointment was as the deputy administrator of the American Revolution Bicentennial Administration by President Ford in 1976. From 1979 to 1983, she worked as the commissioner of the advisory commission on public diplomacy as appointed by President Carter. In this role, she had oversight on the United States Information Agency. Three years following this position, President Reagan appointed her to be a member of the Federal Labor Relations Authority for three years. After completing that term, Ms. McKee was reappointed for a five year term as chairman by President George H. W. Bush. During this time President Clinton appointed her as a member of the National Partnership Council.

Notably, Ms. McKee is a graduate of the Packer Collegiate Institute, Vassar College, and the University of Southern California Graduate School of Business, where she participated in the Winter Executive Program. Remaining involved with Vassar College Alumnae affairs, she was on the Vassar College Board of Trustees. Additionally, she was the president of the class of 1951 and acted as chairman of the 50th reunion, at which her class gave the college a record gift.

In order to keep abreast of changes in the field, she affiliated herself with the New England Historical Genealogical Society, the National Women's Education Fund and Executive Women on Government. During her spare time, she made it a point to give back through a variety of organizations, including the National Association for Olmsted Parks, Brooklyn Citizens for Eisenhower-Nixon, and the first woman President of the New York State Young Republican Association. Passionate about her family history, she is also involved with the Connecticut Genealogical Society, the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society, the Connecticut Historical Society, the Lacy Fenwick chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the New York chapter of the Society of Colonial Dames.

For her professional accomplishments, she has been awarded with the Outstanding Alumna Recognition through Packer Collegiate Institute, the Herbert Brownell Award from NY State Young Republicans and features in Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America and Who's Who in American Politics.
