With more than six decades of experience, Mr. Johnson has flourished as the associate department head for the C31 Division of the MITRE Corp. in Bedford, Massachusetts, since 1989, having previously served as the division assistant between 1988 and 1989. Prior to these engagements, he worked with Raytheon Co., where he held managerial positions for various divisions including mobile equipment and structures, mechanical design, antenna design, and product design from 1968 to 1988. Earlier in his career, he was associated with the General Electric Research Laboratory, where he contributed as a detail draftsman and a mechanical design engineer, further progressing to a mechanical design engineer with Sylvania Electronic Systems between 1957 and 1968. Subsequently, Mr. Johnson joined Avco Corp. as an electro¬mechanical systems engineer from 1966 to 1968.
Prior to etnbarking on his career, Mr. Johnson graduated from Northeastern University in Boston with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering in 1958. Following this accomplishment, he spent two years in the United States Anny, where he served as a platoon leader in the 4th Annored Division in Germany from 1959 to 1961. A member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Mr. Johnson maintains professional affiliation with the Institution of Environmental Sciences, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Electronics Packaging Society and the National Security Association.
Inspired to pursue a career in engineering by his father, who was an engineer himself, Mr. Johnson overcame the initial discouragement he received, finding it only fueled his desire to work hard and achieve his goals. Having accomplished much over the course of his career, he is most proud of the opportunity he had to design the bilateral radar for the Apollo 17. As a result of this work, Mr. Johnson's name was engraved on the National Aviation & Space Exploration Wall of Honor at the Smithsonian Institute in 2000.
An active member of his community, Mr. Johnson has dedicated a portion of his time to the Boston Partners in Education. Outside of his essential responsibilities, he enjoys photography, model making, auto-mechanics and fishing in his spare time. In light of all his achievements, Mr. Johnson has previously been featured in the 55th edition of Who's Who in America.
