Ms. Rogers is a former secondary school educator who taught science to middle and high school students for close to 30 years. Retiring in 2000 from the National Cathedral School in Washington, D.C., she first began teaching at the Washington School in 1972. During her tenure there, she headed the science department between 1989 and 1993 and 1994 and 1995. She also taught and headed the science department at the Oak Grove Coburn School in Vassalboro, Maine, taught at the Hauppauge Middle School in New York and was a teaching assistant at the American University in Washington, D.C., while pursuing her master's degree. In the field, Ms. Rogers was a naturalist for the United States Natural Park Service and a co-director and assistant director for the Student Conservation Association.
Throughout her career, Ms. Rogers spent time as a co-director, director and counselor for the science camp at the Potomac School in McLean, Virginia, between 1982 and 1992. She was a consultant for the Greenhouse Crisis Foundation and the National Geographic Society and a teacher and consultant for the National Association of Biology Teachers. Furthermore, she served as a lecturer for the Young Associates Program at the Smithsonian Institute and was a member of the taproots workshop at Stony Brook University. Since retiring, Ms. Rogers has been the coordinator for the Water Logging Program and educator for the marine program at the Cornell Cooperative Extension in Suffolk County, New York, between 2003 and 2008.
Ms. Rogers is a member and former director of the Maine chapter of the Nature Conservancy. She is also a longtime member of the National Parks Conservation Association, the Student Conservation Association and the International Star Class Yacht Racing Association. She has served as chairman of the Pittston Conservation Commission in Maine, co-president of the McLean High School Parent-Teacher-Student Association, facilitator of the Committee for Mathematics and Science in Washington and member of the Dwight D. Eisenhower National Program of Mathematics and Science Education. Since 2011, Ms. Rogers has been involved as a volunteer fundraiser at her alma mater, Middlebury College.
Named Environmentalist of the Year for the Town of Huntington by the Times of Northport in 2004, Ms. Rogers was also a Chopinsky fellow through the Ukrainian Educational Exchange in 1994 and the recipient of a National Science Foundation grant through American University from 1961 to 1962. She has been cited in more than 40 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women.
Upon earning an undergraduate degree at Middlebury College in Vermont in 1959, Ms. Rogers then completed a Master of Science in biology at American University in 1963 and a Master of Science in environmental biology at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, in 1998. Between 1970 and 1971, she also took various graduate courses at the Stony Brook University in New York. Happily married to the late Edward Lee Rogers for over 30 years, Ms. Rogers is the proud mother of four wonderful children (her fourth died at age 23 after he left the Navy) and four grandchildren.
