Supported by more than 50 years of experience in education and nursing, Dr. Davis has held the title of professor emerita of nursing at the University of North Alabama since 2018, having previously served as a professor of nursing for many years. Prior to these appointments, she worked as an assistant professor at the Capstone College of Nursing at the University of Alabama, as well as an instructor at Tuskegee University for six years. Dr. Davis began her career as a nurse at various hospitals throughout Arizona, Virginia, California and Japan between 1965 and 1971.
Alongside her primary endeavors, Dr. Davis excelled as the assistant to the president of minority affairs and a consultant for cultural diversity with the Alabama Early Intervention Systems. Moreover, she volunteers at her local church and mentors students in her spare time. Prior to embarking upon her professional path, Dr. Davis earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Tuskegee University, Master of Science in nursing from the Medical College of Georgia and a Doctor of Education from the University of Alabama.
To share her wealth of knowledge with her colleagues, Dr. Davis has contributed as an author and co-author of numerous texts, including "Essential Strategies to Success" in 2017. She previously published articles in the third volume of the International Journal of Nursing and Clinical Practices in 2016 and co-authored an article in the 42nd volume of Nursing Education. In addition, Dr. Davis held the post of a textbook reviewer for "Byrne Guide for Inclusionary Cultural Content," "The Science of Nursing Research, Patho-Physiology and Conceptual Approach" and "Nursing Management and Leadership."
Among her notable achievements, Dr. Davis is most renowned for being inducted into the Tuskegee University Nursing Hall of Fame and being presented with the University of North Alabama Inspiration Award in recognition of exemplary dedication for PMA students. She also accepted the UNA and Shoals Community Outstanding Service Award, the President Award of Excellence, the Diversity Award, the Omicron Delta Leadership Award and the NAACP Leroy Finch Education Award. In light of her exceptional undertakings, Dr. Davis was recognized among Outstanding Young Women of America and obtained the Lillian Harvey Award in 2000, among other accolades.
A member of the International Nurses Association, Dr. Davis maintains her affiliation with the American Cancer Society. Furthermore, she has been selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who Among Human Service Professionals, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Nursing, and Who's Who in the South and Southwest. Beyond her primary responsibilities, Dr. Davis enjoys reading and camping in her spare time.
