With over 50 years of experience to her credit, Dr. Sevayega retired as an Associate of the Office of College and University Evaluation with the New York State Department of Education in Albany, New York, in 2019, having excelled in this position since 1992. She also served as an Associate in the Bureau of Professional Career Opportunity Programs with the State Education Department. Prior to these New York State appointments, she was the Director of Higher Education Opportunity Program at Ithaca College from 1986 to 1988. Earlier in her career, Dr. Sevayega found success through her work with Ithaca College, Indiana University in Bloomington, Miami University in Ohio, the Youngstown Board of Education in Ohio and the Columbus City Board of Education in Ohio.
Alongside her primary career endeavors, Dr. Sevayega has maintained her involvement with multiple groups and organizations, such as the Ontario College of Teachers, the National University of Patagonia San Juan Bosco in Argentina and the National Commission for University Evaluation and Accreditation, among others. Active in her community as well, she served as a member of the New York Higher Education Support Center for Systems Change. Since 2002, Dr. Sevayega has worked as the treasurer and a member of the board of directors for the Harvest of Hope Foundation. Currently she is a member of the board of directors for the Wellness Alliance Foundation.
Prior to embarking on her career, Dr. Sevayega earned a Bachelor of Arts at the Ohio State University in Columbus in 1964 before completing postgraduate coursework at Miami University from 1975 to 1976. Obtaining a Master of Science from Youngstown State University in Ohio in 1976, she concluded her studies with a Doctor of Education from Indiana University in 1983. Having accomplished much over the course of her career, Dr. Sevayega considers a major highlight of her career is when two former students reached out to speak with her over 30 years after having left the high school classroom.
