Dr. Flatter is a private practice psychologist in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, who has been serving patients since 1988. Specializing in marital, individual, stress management, anxiety, eating disorders and sexual dysfunction. For 13 years prior to his establishing a private practice, he served as staff psychologist and assistant director of the nationally known Problems of Daily Living Clinic of Sinai Grace Hospital of Detroit. He was a counselor at Wayne State University in Detroit from 1971 to 1976. Prior to his work in mental healthcare, Dr. Flatter was a teacher with the Kettering City School District in Kettering, Ohio, from 1968 to 1971.
Over the span of his career, Dr. Flatter has made numerous appearances on local television, and has given dozens of presentations and seminars to both public and professional groups involving a range of mental health issues. In 1978, he gave a presentation to the International Congress of Psychiatry in Honolulu, Hawaii.
For excellence in his career, Dr. Flatter has been honored with a Men of Achievement Award by the International Biographical Centre in Cambridge, England. He has also received an International Directory of Distinguished Leadership Award for contributions to clinical psychology from the American Biographical Institute. In light of all his accomplishments, Dr. Flatter has previously been cited in the second edition of Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America and the 21st edition of Who's Who in the Midwest.
Inspired to study the sciences by his father, who taught physics and chemistry at both the high school and college level, Dr. Flatter decided to pursue a career in medicine and psychology. He received a Bachelor of Science at Bowling Green University in 1967, followed by a Master of Science at the University of Dayton in 1969 and a Doctor of Education at Wayne State University in 1975. Dr. Flatter is licensed as a psychologist in the state of Michigan.
Born in Fairborn, Ohio, Dr. Flatter later met and married his wife, Mary Louise McDonald, in 1970. He and his wife raised three sons together, which he notes as being the biggest achievement of his life. He is also the proud grandfather of five grandchildren. Dr. Flatter is a health and fitness advocate involving aerobic and weight training as well as the daily practice of yoga.
