Prior to obtaining this role, he was principal engineer at the Babcock & Wilcox Co. in Lynchburg, Virginia, from 1973 to 1979 and a postdoctoral associate metallurgist with the Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont, Illinois, from 1971 to 1973. Earlier in his career, Dr. Buescher was a research physicist with the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, from 1969 to 1971.
Dr. Buescher began his career as a student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in physics in 1962. He continued his studies with the University of Arizona in Tucson, where he earned a Doctor of Philosophy in physics in 1969. In addition to his primary roles, Dr. Buescher was a representative of the United States Regulatory Commission to the Nuclear Research Center in Karlsruhe, Germany, from 1983 to 1986.
A respected voice in his community, Dr. Buescher has been affiliated with a number of professional organizations. He is a member of the American Nuclear Society, the American Physical Society, the Association for Excellence in Reactor Operations and Sigma Phi Sigma. A contributor of articles to professional journals as well, he has written extensively in his areas of expertise.
