Joining the medical center as head nurse of the general surgery clinic and a research associate investigator in 2001, she also spent time as an ATLS coordinator and a bariatric case manager from 2002 to 2009. Earlier in her career, Ms. Voelker cultivated her expertise through various roles at Jackson County Memorial Hospital, the Western Clinic, and Tacoma General Hospital.
Ms. Voelker has given multiple presentations regarding gastric bypass patients and authored "Assessing Quality of Life in Gastric Bypass Patients" in 2004. From 1997 to 1999, she was the editor of the Northwest Paranesthesia Nurses Association newsletter. In order to maintain professional connections, Ms. Voelker had maintained affiliation with Sigma Theta Tau, and the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, and maintains affiliation with the University of Washington Alumni Association.
Prior to embarking on her career, Ms. Voelker pursued studies at the Clover Park Technical College, where she received certification as a medical office assistant in 1975 and a diploma in practical nursing in 1984. Following these accomplishments, she earned an Associate of Nursing at Tacoma Community College in Washington in 1988. Concluding her studies at the University of Washington in Tacoma, Ms. Voelker obtained a Bachelor of Science in nursing in 1995 and a Master of Nursing in 2003.
In recognition of her professional efforts, Ms. Voelker has received a number of honors and accolades. She was awarded a G. Corydon Wagner Endowment Fund Scholarship and helped establish the Veterans Affairs/Department of Defense Clinical Practice Guidelines for the treatment of obesity. Ms. Voelker has been featured in Who's Who Among Human Service Professionals, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Nursing, Who's Who in Medicine, Who's Who in the West, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women.
