Mr. McCally is a health care executive of many years who served as a senior partner and chief operating officer of The Willow Hill Group in Minneapolis from 2010 to 2011. Just prior to that he served as Director General of King Faisal Hospital, Rwanda's Ministry of Health, Africa. Other significant positions included Clinic Manager for The Parker Hughes Cancer Center, President/CEO of Physician's Consulting Services of America, Administrator of Canyon General Hospital in Anaheim, Ca., America's first all computerized hospital.
Mr. McCally started his career in healthcare management after graduating from Michigan State University where he was selected for the Blue Key National Honor Fraternity. He joined the administrative staff of The Mayo Clinic in 1959 and was promoted through 6 different positions in 15 years, ending there as the lay administrator for the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine, where he assisted in developing the Mayo Medical School. This was followed by several key positions including being the President/CEO of the Detroit Medical Center 21 Health Care Centers in 1988 and 1989. In 1990 he was the Commissioner of Health for the State of Minnesota.
Mr. McCally has spent many years giving his time and talent to various organizations including being a member and former board director for the University Rotary Club. He was also a former member of the Board of Directors and Treasurer of the Minnesota State Foundation for Student Organizations, and a board member of the St. Paul Model Cities Medical Center. During the early years of the Clinton Administration he served as the National Director of Healthcare Reform for the national accounting firm of McGladrey and Pullen. During his years in Rochester he was the President of the Jefferson Parent Teacher Association, The Rochester Civic Theater, and the President of the 57 member Rochester Area Church Council. An active sports fan he was also a youth football coach and a youth hockey coach of the city championship team.
He is the author of five books, including "Economic Security for Healthcare Providers", published by McGraw Hill in 1999. He also has been the author of over 50 professional journal articles as well. He was the recipient as author of the "Article of the Year" award by the American College of Healthcare Executives.
During his years living in Minneapolis he served as an adjunct faculty member of the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota and was active in the University Rotary Club which helped raise funds and build an orphanage, school and clinic in a small town outside of the Rwandan capital Kigali. Following the genocide there in the 90's there were around a million orphans in Rwanda. Mr. McCally helped their Ministry of Health in developing strategic healthcare plans while he was instrumental in developing the International Clinical Research Center of Rwanda.
Growing up in a suburb of Chicago during high school he was also very active in the Boy Scouts of America. He became an Eagle Scout, and an assistant scout leader. Later, in Rochester in became an adult scout master, the Mayo Clinic Explorer Scout Master and in 1966 was named "Scouter of the Year".
Back in high school he was an active member of the Methodist Church large youth group. In his senior year he was elected President of the group and considered becoming a minister. But he was encouraged by his pastor to become a Christian business man and so he went to Michigan State University and received his degree in Economics.
Mr. McCally later took postgraduate work at Mankato State University of Minnesota, and at Luther Seminary and Bethel Seminary. He finished requirements and became a Stephens Minister in 1987. He currently serves a senior assisted living facility as a chaplain and Stephens Minister. He has been married to his wife Elaine since 1979 and they enjoy traveling. In his free time he enjoys fishing, photography and musical theater.
