Dr. John A. Lopes has been the president and director of technology with Microcide, Inc., since 1990.

With more than 50 years of professional experience, Dr. Lopes has been the president and director of technology with Microcide, Inc., since 1990. Prior to obtaining his current roles, he was a senior microbiologist with Diversey Corporation from 1981 to 1989 and manager of research and development with Hindustan Lever Research Center from 1976 to 1978. Earlier in his career, he was assistant director and senior scientist at Haffkine Institute from 1973 to 1976 and an associate research scientist with New York University School of Medicine from 1971 to 1973.
Dr. Lopes began his career as a student at the University of Mumbai, where he obtained a Master of Science in 1963. He then joined the University of Waterloo, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in 1969, also serving in a teaching fellowship from 1966 to 1969. He continued his studies with the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, holding a postdoctoral fellowship from 1969 to 1971.
A respected voice in his areas of interest, Dr. Lopes has been an active leader in his community. He is a member of the American Society for Microbiology, the American Board of Bioanalysis, and the Canadian Society of Microbiology. A contributor of articles to professional journals, he holds patents in disinfecting composition, sanitizing activity of n-octenylsuccinin acid, sanitization compositions, and nonalcoholic mouthwash and cysticidal activities.
Throughout his career, Dr. Lopes has been recognized for his contributions. He was named the PTAC Outstanding Business of the Year and was recognized in the Best of Michigan Business. He has also been featured in numerous honors publications, including Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the Midwest. He was recommended for the president's Green Chemistry award for his novel antimicrobial technology using safe, food grade, and non-toxic ingredients.
