PROVO, UT, June 10, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Richard Anderson Heckmann, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Heckmann celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With over 50 years of experience in the field of zoological education, Dr. Heckmann is a professor emeritus for Brigham Young University as of 2002. He first became involved in biological research upon earning a Bachelor of Science in zoology from Utah State University in 1954 – shortly thereafter, he answered the call of his country and served with the United States Army for three years, honorably discharged as a first lieutenant. Renewing his academic career, he subsequently returned to Utah State University, contributing there as a teacher's assistant whilst pursuing his Master of Science, which he obtained in 1958. Throughout the remainder of the late 1950s and early 1960s, he completed postgraduate studies at several academic institutions along the west Pacific states, including the University of California Davis, the University of Hawai'i, and the University of Washington. In the culmination of his studies, Dr. Heckmann finally earned his Doctor of Philosophy from Montana State University in 1970.

That same year, having already garnered extensive experience in lecturing roles at different schools, Dr. Heckmann joined the faculty of California State University, Fresno, remaining there for two years before departing to build a prolific career in biology consultations for a variety of prominent organizations. Prior to this, he consulted with the United States Forest Service and Niagara Chemical Co. in the 1960s – in the 1970s, he would add the Westinghouse Electric Corp., the Central Utah Project, and the Noorlander Corp. to his list of clients, among many others. Concurrently, he continued with his studies, directing a research team in Guatemala and serving as a visiting professor to Russia in 1989. He further excelled in Egypt, serving students at both Ain Shams University and Cairo University. Upon settling back in Utah, Dr. Heckmann accepted a position at Brigham Young University as a professor, which subsequently honored him with emeritus status upon his retirement in 2002.

With a particular interest in wildlife diseases, Dr. Heckmann has published a number of texts pertinent to his field, namely the "Laboratory Manual for Biology," parts one and two, and "Healing and Bacteriocidal Properties of Selected Herbal Extracts." He has also been active on the editorial boards of several scientific journals, including California Fish and Game, and the Journal of Wildlife Diseases. Dr. Heckmann's specific area of expertise is fish, as reflected in his association with such research societies as the American Institute of Fishery Research Biologists and the American Fisheries Society.

In his spare time, Dr. Heckmann enjoys hiking and fishing. He is also a devout follower of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and is happily married to his wife, Karen, with whom he has fathered five children. It has been his abiding joy to welcome sixteen grandchildren into his immediate family.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Dr. Heckmann has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
