While his career has been filled with highlights, Martin Seidel Needelman is most proud of making a difference in his community.

A commended attorney with many years of experience, Mr. Needelman began working as an AmeriCorp VISTA attorney for the Southside Community Mission in Brooklyn in 1969. Two years later, he transferred to Brooklyn Legal Service Corporation A as a staff attorney – a position he maintained from 1971 until 1984. He concluded his tenure with Brooklyn A as project director and chief counsel from 1984 to 2018. While his career has been filled with highlights, he is most proud of making a difference in his community. Mr. Needelman notably helped the local community to take control of the school district for Williamsburg, Brooklyn, in order to defeat long-term patterns of discrimination against the Latino and African American communities.
Prior to obtaining his first position as an attorney, Mr. Needelman earned a Bachelor of Arts from Brooklyn College in New York City in 1966. Continuing his studies, he obtained a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Boston University in 1969 and a Master of Laws from the New York University School of Law in 1978. Mr. Needelman maintains affiliation with the Brooklyn Bar Association, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the New York State Bar Association, the New York State Legal Services Coalition, the Brooklyn Tenant lawyers Network, and the National Lawyers Guild, while also devoting his time to bettering his community through the board of directors of the Nuestros Ninos Child Development School, Los Sures and others.
Mr. Needelman has been awarded for his efforts in law on numerous occasions. In addition to earning a Pro Bono Award from the Brooklyn Bar Association in 1992, he won the Risk Taker of the Year Award from Jews for Racial and Economic Justice in 1998, the Louis Lefkowitz Award from the Public Interest Resource Center at the School of Law of Fordham University in New York City in 2010, and Boston University law School's Silver Shingle Award in 2015.
