In his current career reiteration Mr. Kurfehs is Vice President of Coldwell Banker Commercial, Scalzo Group.
BROOKFIELD, CT, June 11, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Hal Kurfehs has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visability, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Armed with an MBA degree from Wharton, Mr. Kurfehs' first corporate career track covered 15 years in New York City, Danbury, CT, and Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In advertising he was a Brand Manager, Account Executive/Senior Account Supervisor, Director of Advertising & PR and Board of Directors member. During this phase Mr. Kurfehs successfully managed brands/companies such as Lucky Strike, Carlton, and Montclair Cigarettes, Proctor & Gamble, General Foods, Texaco, Philip Morris non-tobacco products, Royal Crown Cola, American Cyanamid, and the Ethan Allen Furniture Company.
There was also an entrepreneurial stint during this period as Vice President, Director of Marketing, of a start-up NYC computer software company that was developing an interactive Management Information System (aka Data Base Management System). Mr. Kurfehs obtained a test review of the system with Mobil Oil, with a number of other Fortune 500 companies watching closely. While it turned out that the computer hardware of the time was not advanced enough for the system's capability, the national publicity propelled Mr. Kurfehs into a Who's Who listing for the first time.
Mr. Kurfehs' corporate career culminated as Vice President, General Manager for the Retail Franchise Division, of Reed, Ltd., and he was later rewarded to also lead the Fabric Division, containing two additional companies. Reed, Ltd. is a British multi-national company with North American operations headquartered in Toronto.
Mr. Kurfehs started to tire of corporate life and yearned to be an entrepreneur, so he acquired a catalog specialty book business, and as President & CEO, expanded it many times over in sales volume and exposure from national to international. This new entity, Fairfield Book Company, Inc., specialized in military history and boasted the world's most extensive number of titles on the subject, while also publishing some proprietary titles. An indication of the new company's impact was Mr. Kurfehs' inclusion in Who's Who in Aviation & Aerospace. Using the model of the military history catalogue he also established Harlin House, Ltd., an antiques & collectibles book company and catalogue. During this period the company was courted for acquisition by the giant Prentice-Hall book company.
In his current career reiteration Mr. Kurfehs is Vice President of Coldwell Banker Commercial, Scalzo Group. He has been a consistent top producer, and a multiple recipient of the prestigious CoStar Power Broker Award for the Westchester/Southern Connecticut market, as well as the Coldwell Banker Commercial Circle of Distinction Award. Marquis Who's Who recognized him as a Real Estate "Expert Resource" in 2016.
Mr. Kurfehs has also been heavily involved in economic development, land use, and cultural volunteer activity. A partial list includes Chair, Western Connecticut Economic Development Alliance (WCEDA); Economic Advisory Board, and the federally-designated Economic Development District (EDD) of the Western Connecticut Council of Governments; Board of Directors of Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut; Chair of Brookfield Economic Development Commission and the Planning Commission.
On a statewide basis Mr. Kurfehs was on the steering committee that established the Connecticut Economic Resource Center (CERC), and he heads the Celebrate Connecticut! Annual Industry Awards for the Western CT region.
Real estate activities have included being President & Director of the statewide Commercial-Investment Division (CID) of the Connecticut Association of Realtors, a Corporator & Advisory Board Member for Fairfield County Bank, and Real Estate Chairman of United Way. Mr. Kurfehs has contributed dozens of articles to professional journals and newspapers, and has been a speaker at numerous economic development and commercial real estate conferences. He also served as an Adjunct Professor at Ancell School of Business, Western Connecticut State University.
These largely volunteer activities resulted in Mr. Kurfehs' inclusion in the 2018 Crandall Challenge Honor Roll of The Wharton Graduate Emeritus Society.
These leadership and creative attributes showed up as early as Mr. Kurfehs' college days at St. Peter's University in New Jersey. He was in Who's Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges, was President of the Senior Class, Chair of the Student Council, and the founder of a Public Speaking Club, while also being in the Honor Society.
Mr.Kurfehs' Marquis biography was first published in Who's Who in America in 1997, Who's Who in the World in 1982, Who's Who in Finance and Industry in 1975, and Who's Who in the East in 1974.
