Having accrued more than 40 years of experience in the field of nursing, Ms. Marquis retired in 1998. Prior to this, she began her professional journey in various nursing positions from 1958 to 1960, shortly after earning a diploma from DePaul Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Following a yearlong appointment with Franklin Hospital in Benton, Illinois, she contributed her services to families of naval men at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, between 1963 and 1967. She would return to Camp Lejeune in the early 1970s, after a brief affiliation with St. Joseph's Hospital in Orange County. Ms. Marquis departed from her service to the U.S. Navy in 1973, joining the Maricopa Medical Center of Phoenix as a nurse tasked with night duties.
Remaining with Maricopa Medical for several years, Ms. Marquis eventually rose to the position of head nurse in 1977, lending her qualified expertise to obstetrics and gynecology surgery and pregnancy care for a number of years. During this time, she concluded her academic studies by obtaining a Bachelor of Science from the College of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois, in 1980. In 1983, she continued her career at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center, advancing from maternal transport nurse to head nurse of pregnancy care by 1989. Upon the conclusion of her duties there, she held a short role with CareLink Corp. as a perinatal home nurse. Subsequently accepting a position with Health Choice Arizona, Ms. Marquis worked the remaining four years of her career as a prior authorization case manager until retiring in 1998.
In her time as a maternal health care nurse, Ms. Marquis was sought after as an expert witness in court cases, and a reviewer for legal profiles in the field of obstetrics. She has maintained membership with a number of organizations pertinent to her area of expertise, including the Nurses Association of American College Obstetricians and Gynecologists, for which she served as district chairwoman of publicity, and Healthy Babies of Arizona, for which she served on the board of advisors. Ms. Marquis has been happily married to her husband, Paul, for more than 60 years, and together they are the proud parents of three children.
