Mr. Holland is an independent democratic member of the Mississippi House of Representatives. Representing the 16th district since 1984, he was notably a contender for the democratic nomination in Mississippi's first congressional district special election in 2008. During his career, he has served 16 years as Chairman of the Agriculture Committee, 8 years as Chair of the Public Health and Human Services Committee, Appropriations including 24 years as Subcommittee Chair of Health Care and Medicaid, among several other committees. Mr. Holland is a former staff aide to former Rep. Jamie Whitten and former Sen. Thad Cochran.
Outside of politics, Mr. Holland is the owner of Holland Funeral Directors in Tupelo and Okolona, MS, and the president of the Regional Rehabilitation Center in Tupelo, and the Secretary-Treasurer of the Sanctuary Hospice House Board of Directors. A member of the Tombigbee Electric Power Association Board of Directors for 25 years, Mr. Holland maintains professional affiliation with the American, Mississippi and Lee County Farm Bureau Federation, the Community Development Foundation and the Mississippi and National Funeral Directors Association, among other organizations.
Born and raised in the Tupelo, Mississippi area, where he still lives today on his ancestral family farm, Mr. Holland's parents were a great influence on him, especially his mother, Sadie Holland, who served in public officer for 50 years before retiring in 2019 after 20 years as a judge. Mr. Holland has been married to the former Gloria Temple, for many years, and he is the proud father of four children, Ashley, Emily, Haiwei and McKinley. In light of all his accomplishments, Mr. Holland has previously been selected for inclusion in approximately 30 editions of Who's Who in American Politics and Who's Who in the South and Southwest.
