Dr. Sandra H.B. Clark has been recognized as scientist emeritus of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) since 2001.

With nearly 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Clark has been recognized as scientist emeritus of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) since 2001. Prior to her retirement, she held a number of positions with the organization, including as a geologist with the Eastern Mineral Resource Survey Team from 1996 to 2001, deputy chief of mineral resource assessments from 1995 to 1996, geologist and commodity specialist with Eastern Mineral Resources from 1980 to 1995, and equal employment opportunity officer from 1976 to 1980. She started with the USGS as a staff geologist from 1972 to 1974 and geologist with Alaskan Mineral Resources from 1967 to 1972.
Dr. Clark previously participated in the Department Manager Development Program at the U.S. Department of the Interior from 1975 to 1976, having been a member of the Alaska Gas Pipeline Taskforce since 1974. From 1966 to 1967, she was a geologist with Cominco American, Inc., from 1966 to 1967, and a teaching assistant at the University of Idaho College of Mines from 1964 to 1966. Earlier in her career, she was a field assistant at Bear Creek Mining Company in 1965 and with the Idaho Bureau of Mines and Geology from 1963 to 1964.
Dr. Clark began her career as a student at Iowa State University, where she completed coursework from 1956 to 1960. She then joined the University of Idaho, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in 1963. She continued her studies with the university, receiving a Master of Science in 1964. She concluded her education in 1968, earning a Doctor of Philosophy.
A respected voice in her areas of interest, Dr. Clark has been an active leader in her community. A fellow of the Geological Society of America, she is a member of the Association for Women Geoscientists, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, and the International Association on the Genesis of Ore Deposits. She has also been affiliated with the Society of Economic Geologists, Toastmasters International, the Association of Geoscientists for International Development, the Camera Club and the Geologic Division Retirees.
In light of her exceptional undertakings, Dr. Clark has accrued several accolades. The recipient of a Meritorious Service Award from the Department of the Interior in 1995, she also received a Stewardship Award in 1996. A prolific videographer as well, she received a Gold Screen Award and Silver Screen Award in 2002, as well as a Gold World Medal from the New York Festivals Film and Video Competition in 2003. She has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women.
