With 40 years of professional experience, Mr. Hitt retired in 2012, having been a programmer and analyst with San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, CA, since 1985. In addition to his primary roles, he was an instructor of computer science with the college from 1987 to 1990, vice president of the classified senate from 1994 to 1996, and president of the classified senate from 1996 to 1998. Prior to entering these roles, he served as a computer programmer with DLH Systems in 1985 and with the Sacramento (California) Municipal Utilities District from 1983 to 1985. His first professional post was as a social studies teacher at Lincoln High School in Stockton, CA, from 1972 to 1982.
Mr. Hitt began his career as a student at the University of Kansas, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Chinese in 1967. He then joined the United States Army, serving to the rank of first lieutenant from 1967 to 1969. He returned to academics at Stanford University, completing a Master of Arts in education and East Asian studies in 1972. Subsequently, he achieved certification in computer programming through San Joaquin Delta College in 1981.
An active presence in his field, Mr. Hitt has maintained membership with the California School Employees Association since 1985. Moreover, he served as a member of the Commission on Legislation and Finance at the Community College League of California from 1991 to 1995. He has been further associated with the Osher Life-Long Learning Institute at the University of the Pacific since 2015, where he has been on the Curriculum Committee since 2018. Outside of his primary endeavors, he remains involved with his community. With Stockton Youth Soccer, he acted as coach from 1986 to 1991 and coordinator from 1992 to 1994. From 1993 to 1995, he was a trumpeter in the Stockton Concert Band.
Throughout his career, Mr. Hitt has been recognized for his achievements. In December of 1998, he was honored with the Non-Teaching Employee Award, which was presented by the San Joaquin Delta College Academic Senate. He later received a Classified Leadership Award from the California Community Colleges Classified Senate in June of 2001. He has received awards and accolades for his accomplishments and contributions. He has also been featured in numerous honors publications, including the fifth and sixth editions of Who's Who in American Education.
