BRADENTON, FL, June 27, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- With more than 60 years of professional experience, Mr. Smith has been a lecturer at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida, since 2005. Prior to obtaining this role, he was the director of alumni relations at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana, from 1980 to 1987. He previously held a number of positions with the United States Department of State, including consul general with the United States Consulate in Medellin, Columbia, from 1977 to 1980, commercial attache with the United States Embassy in Bogota, Colombia, from 1976 to 1977, and economic counselor with the United States Embassy in Asuncion, Paraguay, from 1973 to 1976.
From 1970 to 1973, Mr. Smith was a consul and principal officer with the United States Consulate in Bilbao, Spain, having held the same positions with the United States Consulate in Valencia, Spain, since 1969. He previously served as a desk officer for Spain with the Department of State from 1967 to 1969 and second secretary at the United States Embassy in Madrid from 1960 to 1966. Earlier in his career, Mr. Smith was vice consul of the United States Consulate General in Algiers, Algeria, from 1957 to 1960.
Mr. Smith began his career as a student at Wabash College, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1951. Continuing his studies, he completed postgraduate coursework at Yale University from 1951 to 1952 and received a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Indiana University in 1954. He subsequently served with the United States Army from 1954 to 1956, later returning to his education with the University of California Berkeley to complete postgraduate coursework from 1966 to 1967. Mr. Smith has been licensed to practice law by the Indiana State Bar.
A respected voice in his areas of expertise, Mr. Smith has been an active leader in his community as well. He is a member of the American Foreign Service Association, the Fort Ouiatenon Society, the Masons, the Phi Beta Kappa Society and the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. For excellence in his career, Mr. Smith has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in the Midwest.
