Prior to embarking on his professional path, Dr. Brassie pursued an education at Concordia University Chicago in River Forest, Illinois, where he earned a Bachelor of Education in 1963. Following this accomplishment, he went on to continue his studies at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. First securing a Master of Arts from the university in 1965, he later obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in 1968.
Dr. Brassie began his career as an associate professor and division chair with Concordia University, Nebraska in Seward from 1967 to 1973. He further progressed to professor and department head at Indiana State University in Terre Haute between 1973 and 1979, subsequently joining the University of Georgia in Athens as an associate professor and department head from 1979 and 2001. Moreover, he concluded his career as the executive director of the United States International University Sports Federation between 2001 and 2015. Alongside his primary endeavors, Dr. Brassie contributed as a secretary of the United States Collegiate Sports Council in Colorado Springs and a commission member of the International University Sports Federation in Brussels, Belgium, from 1990 to 2015.
An active member of his community, Dr. Brassie dedicated a portion of his time to the National Association for Sport and Physical Education, Rotary International and Kiwanis International between 1970 and 2019. Recognized as an expert in the industry, he has contributed several articles to professional journals. For his accomplishments in the field, he was a four-time recipient of the Distinguished Achievement Award from the National Association Sport and Physical Education and was also recognized with an Honor Award from the American Alliance for Health and Physical Education in 1989. Additionally, Dr. Brassie was accepted into the Concordia University Hall of Fame in 2001, and was presented an honorary Doctor of Laws from Concordia University Chicago in 1997.
