Originally from Yekaterinburg, Russia herself, Dr. Skryabina found difficulty pursuing her career without payment after the Soviet Union collapsed. She often did not receive compensation for several months, but she did not give up in spite of not being paid and maintained working. Coming from a family of educated people, her father encouraged her to become a successful engineer and graduate from Ural State Technical University. Nearly a decade after achieving this goal, Dr. Skryabina immigrated to the United States in 1996.
In light of her exceptional undertakings, Dr. Skryabina was presented with the Young Scientists Prize from the Ural Division of the Russian Academy of Science and the Sverdlovsk Regional Union of Science and Education between 1988 and 1989. She also accepted grants from the International Science Foundation in Washington in 1993 and the Russian Foundation of Fundamental Research in 1995. Moreover, Dr. Skryabina was selected for inclusion in the sixth edition of Who's Who in Science and Engineering, the 23rd edition of Who's Who of American Women, the 57th edition of Who's Who in America, and six editions of Who's Who in the World.
