Mr. Temple is a former chemicals and pharmaceuticals executive who began his career with the Dow Chemical Company in Midland, MI in 1951. Employed with Dow for nearly 40 years in many product and sales management positions he became General Manager of Dow's Michigan manufacturing division. In that job about 3 months, the hourly employees who were members of the USW went out on strike. The strike lasted 6 months, salaried employees ran the plants and production records were set. They welcomed their striking employees back warmly and without incident. Mr. Temple then served as VP of Marketing for Dow Chemical USA before becoming President of Dow Chemical Latin America in Coral Gables, FL. He was named to Dow's board of directors, and then, President and CEO of Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals in Cincinnati, OH. Dow acquired Marion Laboratories in 1989 and be became Chairman and CEO of Marion Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals Inc, retiring as vice chairman in 1995 and as Executive Vice President of the Dow Chemical Co.
A former trustee of the Committee for Economic Development, Mr. Temple also served on the board of fellows for Saginaw Valley State University and has been a longtime member of the president's council at Purdue University since 1978. Mr. Temple is also a member and former board of directors member of the Society of the Plastics Industry and Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, and is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the Management Association.
The recipient of a Distinguished Engineer Alumni Award in 1978 and an Outstanding Chemical Engineer Award in 1993 from Purdue University, Mr. Temple previously received a Silver Knight Award in 1976 and a Gold Knight Award in 1982 from the from the Management Association. The Temples were very active supporters of the United Way of Martin County and were twice recognized for their generosity receiving the Alexis De Tocqueville Outstanding Philanthropy Award in 2012 and The Francis Langford Humanitarian Award in 2019. Mr. Temple has been cited in approximately 35 editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and Who's Who in the World.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, Mr. Temple took an interest in chemistry and mathematics while in high school growing up in Chicago. Going on to college, he pursued a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering at Purdue University, graduating in 1951. Years later, he received an honorary Doctor of Engineering from the university in 1988.
Formerly married to the late Ann Elizabeth McFerran for almost 58 years, Mr. Temple recently remarried Margaret Richebourg in 2016. He has four children, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Residing in Stuart, FL, Mr. Temple loves the outdoors. He particularly enjoys fishing for Blue Marlin and Sailfish, swimming and cheering on the Boston Celtics.
