With many years of professional experience to her credit, Ms. Minto is an accomplished sculptor who is notable for developing a process to weld metal directly onto lava rock. Having been featured in galleries around the world, her exhibit "Art.Rage.Us" has traveled to the Pao Galleries at the Hong Kong Art Centre, and her show "Healing Legacies" appeared at the Glenbow Museum in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Some of her other notable exhibits include "The Arts of Healing," "Extinct and Endangered Lava Creatures" and "Lava People." In 2017, Ms. Minto published a children's book based on one of her sculptures, titled "The Buckarooster." She has been featured in articles in Practical Welding and The Fabricator. In 2012, her sculpture park, Lava Rock Ranch, Sculpture in the Sagebrush, was accepted on the National Geographic Geotourism site, and she was one of the featured artists in the University of Nevada Press book, "Women Artists of the Great Basin."
Alongside her primary career responsibilities, Ms. Minto has contributed her skills to a number of other professional endeavors as well. Having incorporated the Chinese concept of "chi" into both her personal life and artwork, she has excelled as an instructor of tai chi in her local area for 25 years. Previously, Ms. Minto had maintained her involvement with the Breast Cancer Action Group in Burlington, VT, where she had served as the vice president of the board of directors from 1994 to 1995.
Prior to embarking on her career, Ms. Minto earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Oklahoma in Norman in 1963. After this accomplishment, she continued her studies with Lassen Community College in Susanville, California; California State University, Long Beach, and several additional workshops. Impressively, she is responsible for the conception and implementation of the class "Welding for Artists" at Lassen Community College. In order to keep abreast of developments in her field, Ms. Minto maintains affiliation with the Modoc County Art Center.
With her work featured in a number of journals and catalogues, Ms. Minto has been the recipient of many honors and accolades over the course of her career. First recognized with a Roger Doroughty Purchase Award for Sculpture from the University of Oklahoma in 1963, she also accepted a Sculpture Award from the 23rd Annual Exhibition of Oklahoma Artists that same year. Subsequently, she was presented with two Sculpture Awards from the Redding Arts Festival in 1965. Furthermore, Ms. Minto was honored by Lassen Community College with the inaugural Rock Welding Award from their Welding Guild in 1990, an Outstanding Performance Award for Special Application Welding in 1992, and the National Welding Hero award by Miller Welding Co. in 2012.
