Jones, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. Leading a successful career in higher education for over ten years, Dr. Jones initially was appointed a lecturer and then an assistant professor in the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He was also the assistant director of Project MAC (Multiple Access Computer and Machine Aided Cognition) at MIT. Furthermore, he spent time as a lecturer for the Senior Seminar on Foreign Policy for the United States Department of State and the United States-China Cultural Exchange Program. For several years, he also served as a consultant to the Data Processing Division of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in Washington, D.C. While at MIT, Dr. Jones co-authored the 1965 publication "Online Computation and Simulation: The OPS-3 System", and he also developed the SIMPL programming language used to facilitate the modelling of complex interactive simulation projects.
While teaching at MIT, he was presented with the opportunity to become the vice president of the United Bank Service Company of Colorado, where he would also oversee all software development activities for the state's largest multi-bank holding company. After due consideration, he accepted this position in 1974, leaving his teaching career behind him. Dr. Jones remained in banking from 1974 up to 1992.
Dr. Jones' distinguished career in the banking field also included positions with the First National Bank of Denver as vice president and then President of the Minibank Switch Network (one of the first state-wide ATM Networks in Colorado). In 1992, he left the banking field to accept the position of Chairman of the Board of Unique Industries – a manufacturer of specialized pressure-washing equipment. He retained that position until 2008 when the company was sold and he retired.
Involved in the arts for many years, Dr. Jones is the former treasurer of the Denver Civic Ballet and a past president of the Men's Organization for the Denver Symphony. Also serving on the board of directors of the Denver chapter of Young Audiences Arts for Learning and the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. Being an avid skier, Dr. Jones was active in several Colorado Mountain communities, serving as the president of the Silverado II Homeowners Association in Winter Park, Colorado, the Hyatt Mountain Lodge Association in Beaver Creek Colorado and the Marriott Mountain Lodge in Breckenridge Colorado. He also served as president of the Marriott Ocean Pointe time-share property in Palm Beach Shores Florida.
Prior to embarking on his working career, Dr. Jones pursued an education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. First earning a Bachelor of Science in 1957, and then a Master of Science in 1958. Before returning to his studies to obtain a Doctor of Philosophy degree at MIT in 1967, he served as an intelligence officer in the United States Air Force from 1958 to 1962, separating with the rank of Captain
Dr. Jones maintains affiliation with the Newcomen Society, the General Society of Colonial Wars, the National Huguenot Society, The Ancient and Honorable Artillery Society (the first organized militia formed in the United States), the National Society of Old Plymouth Colony Descendants and the Hereditary Order of Descendants of Colonial Governors. For over 30 years, Dr Jones has also been very active in his local church, even co-founding a new branch church in Aurora Colorado in 1983, where he continues to serve as Sunday School Teacher, Treasurer, and an Executive Board member.
