A distinguished professor emeritus at the University of South Carolina, Dr. Anderson taught graduate courses in research design, curriculum development, classroom assessment and evaluation from 1973 to 2006. Prior to his tenure with the aforementioned university, he worked as a mathematics teacher for four years at Metcalf Junior High School in Burnsville, Minnesota and Esko High School in Esko, Minnesota. Today, as an educational researcher, Dr. Anderson devotes his time to consulting with educators and policy makers on the revised Bloom's Taxonomy, curriculum development and effective teaching strategies for children of poverty in the United States, Eastern Europe and South America.

Notably, Dr. Anderson's research interests include the nurturing of young educational researchers, the allocation and productive use of school time and improving the quality of education for economically-disadvantaged children and youth. During his career in academia, he was a visiting professor at the University of Sydney, the University of Newcastle, the College of Charleston and Francis Marion University. In 2003, he co-founded the Center of Excellence to Prepare Teachers of Children of Poverty at Francis Marion University. Dr. Anderson was also responsible for establishing an endowed fund at the University of South Carolina to support first-generation college students who aspire to become educators.

Publishing widely in his field, Dr. Anderson has authored or edited close to 20 books and monographs. He is best known as a senior editor and contributor for "A Taxonomy of Learning, Teaching, and Assessing: A Revision of Bloom's Taxonomy of Educational Objectives," which has been used since 2005 to revise academic standards in South Carolina and North Carolina. He has also penned articles for nearly 40 peer reviewed journals. The editor of the "Teaching and Teacher Education" section of the 1995 second edition of the International Encyclopedia of Education, Dr. Anderson further served as the chairman of the editorial board of the International Journal of Educational Research from 1995 to 2001.

Dr. Anderson is a graduate of Macalester College, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics in 1967. Subsequently, he obtained a Master of Arts in educational psychology at the University of Minnesota in 1971 and a Doctor of Philosophy in measurement, evaluation and statistical analysis at the University of Chicago in 1973. An elected fellow of the International Academy of Education, for which he became president in 2019, he has received several teaching and research awards as a faculty member of the University of South Carolina. Dr. Anderson is also recognized as a celebrated Marquis listee who has been featured in the fourth edition of Who's Who in American Education.
