Having joined the aforementioned university in 1976, he has found success in multiple positions over the years, beginning as an aspirant in 1976 and advancing from a junior researcher to a senior researcher by 1993, whereupon he joined the faculty as an associate professor. Throughout his career, Dr. Afonin has conducted research on electromagnetoelastic actuators, piezoactuators, precision electromechanical systems, and control system.
Prior to joining the National Research University of Electronic Technology as an employee, Dr. Afonin earned a diploma from the aforementioned institution in 1976. He continued his studies and subsequently obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in electronic technology engineering and control systems in 1982. He received academic title of Senior Researcher in 1991. In order to remain aware of developments in the field, Dr. Afonin maintains his professional affiliation with the Engineering Research Council, the Open Association of Research Society USA, and the International Agency for Standards and Ratings. Additionally, he are Fellow Member of Engineering Research Council and Fellow Member of Directorate of Physics, International Agency for Standards and Ratings, he has contributed scholarly research to several articles, chapters and books, including "Piezoelectrics and Nanomaterials: Fundamentals, Developments and Applications," "Advances in Nanotechnology," "Precision Electromechanical Systems" and "Piezoactuator of Nano and Microdisplacement."
Due to his outstanding accomplishments in physics and applied mathematics, Dr. Afonin has received numerous accolades throughout his career. In addition to earning an Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and listings in Who's Who in the World, he placed first at the World Championship in Physics 2018 for the Electromagnetoelastic Actuators World Cup hosted by the International Agency for Standards and Ratings. Moreover, Dr. Afonin has competed in Russia's Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy, and won two bronze medals and a silver medal for his performance.
