His shining achievement is his ability to practice for over 41 years.
RICHMOND, IN, July 04, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Burkhart attended La Salle University in Philadelphia, PA, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1966. Subsequently, he earned a Doctor of Medicine from Indiana University in 1970 and became a surgical intern with the North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem between 1970 and 1971. Soon thereafter, he began his residency in neurology at the Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis from 1971 to 1972. He was given the chance to join the Navy as an Ensign his first year of medical school and when he graduated he had been promoted to Lieutenant. While serving on active duty he was given the opportunity to attend the Naval Aerospace Medical Center and graduated as a Naval Flight Surgeon in March 1973. While serving aboard the Iwo Jima with HMM-261 he was selected for Lieutenant Commander and received his promotion on returning to the Marine Corp Air Station at New River, NC, where he served until March 1975.
After the completion of his military service, Dr. Burkhart returned to Indiana University Medical Center, where he finished his residency in 1977. His neurology career began with Reid Health in Richmond, IN, where he worked for 28 years until he retired from private practice in 2005 and subsequently was asked to join Neurology Care in 2006, where he worked until 2011 when the practice became part of Reid as Reid Neurology Associates and where he continues to practice neurology. To remain aware of changes in the field, he maintains affiliation with the American Academy of Neurology and the Indiana Neurological Society. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
As a testament to his success, Dr. Burkhart was the recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal from the United States Navy and the A.T. Ross Award for the neurological complications of renal failure and its treatment. His shining achievement, however, is his ability to practice for over 41 years. When he started in 1977, his industry did not have access to as much information that is available today. He feels honored to be present while all the new changes arose and that he was able to better the health of his patients.
Married to Marie Bailey since 1969, Dr. Burkhart has two sons, one grandson and one granddaughter. Born in Washington, DC, he currently resides in Richmond, IN. Outside of his professional life he enjoys studying calculus and flying his C172 flight simulator.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Dr. Burkhart has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
