During this time, he also served as a professor in the department of internal medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Prior to obtaining these positions, Dr. McConathy held a number of roles for the University of North Texas Health Science Center between 1992 and 2007, such as an associate professor, the director of the division of clinical research in the department of medicine and an adjunct associate professor in the department of biochemistry and molecular biology.
Previously, Dr. McConathy worked as an adjunct associate professor at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine from 1985 until 1992. In the early years of his career, he found success in varying posts with the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for the Lipoprotein Laboratory between 1966 and 1991. Even though his career has been filled with highlights, Dr. McConathy is especially proud of discovering lipid-binding proteins associated with the lipid transport system.
An expert in his field, Dr. McConathy earned a Doctor of Philosophy in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of Oklahoma in 1971. He maintained a professional affiliation with the American Heart Association's Council on Arteriosclerosis, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American College of Surgeons, the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the American Federation for Clinical Research. Over the years, Dr. McConathy also devoted his time and efforts to the USA-USSR Health Professional Exchange Program.
