Ms. Gonnerman served in several different capacities within her field during her tenure.

A nurse for 55 years before retiring in 2016, Ms. Gonnerman served in several different capacities within her field during her tenure. Some of her noteworthy roles in the medical field included working as a medical management consultant for Truine Health Group. and as an industrial/community relations manager and consultant of case management/job analysis for the Freeport Clinic in Illinois. She also held various occupational health nurse and staff nurse positions for corporate organizations, private practice health care offices and hospitals. Although she is no longer in field case management, Ms. Gonnerman continues to work in medical case management part-time for the Department of Labor in the area of worker's compensation.
Ms. Gonnerman lent her expertise as a program coordinator at New Horizons Health Services in Freeport for some time. She was also an educator and speaker on behalf of the Freeport Clinic and served on the board of directors of the Sojourn House, Inc., in Freeport. During the latter half of her professional career, Ms. Gonnerman was very active in her community. She served as an adult advisory/chairman of the International Drug Free Youth in Stephenson County, Illinois. She also served in several capacities for her local Republican party in the 74th District of Illinois, was a classified section leader for the United Way of North Illinois, and was a member of the Miss Freeport scholarship advisory committee.
In 1964, Ms. Gonnerman received a Diploma in Nursing from the Swedish American Hospital School of Nursing in Rockford, Illinois. She is a registered nurse and was a certified occupational health nurse-specialist, and was certified in CPR. A member of the North Illinois Association of Occupational Health Nurses, Ms. Gonnerman notably served on the organization's board of directors and as a recording secretary. She was also a member of the American Association of Occupational Health Nurses and member and former wellness taskforce member of the Freeport Chamber of Commerce.
