With more than 55 years of professional experience, Ms. Stokes has excelled as an exam prep tutor with Huntington Learning Center since 2011, and a math adjunct professor with Dallas Institute of Funeral Services since 2014 and Dallas Baptist University since 2006. Associated with Bryan Adams High School from 2006 to 2009, she has worked as a board secretary with S&A Systems, Inc., since 1988, for which she held the post of the vice president from 1970 to 2006. Earlier in her career, Ms. Stokes found success as a computer programmer with Systems Tech. Corporation from 1960 to 1970, an associate engineer with Lockheed Electronics Company from 1966 to 1967, and a mathematics tutor with the University of Texas at Arlington from 1966 to 1969.
Ms. Stokes initially pursued an education at the University of Texas at Arlington, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and physics in 1966. She continued her studies with the aforementioned university, earning a Master of Arts in mathematics in 1971. Moreover, Ms. Stokes has been certified as a secondary teacher in mathematics in the state of Texas.
A respected voice in her areas of expertise Ms. Stokes has been an active leader in her community. A former deacon at Royal Lane Baptist Church, she served as an officer with Stonewall Jackson Elementary School Parent Teacher Association and JL Long Middle School Parent Teacher Association, as well as the president of the Woodrow Wilson High School Parent Teacher Association and on the board of directors of the Dallas Council Parent Teacher Association. Likewise, Ms. Stokes is a lifetime member of the National Parent Teacher Association and the Texas Parent Teacher Association.
Throughout her career, Ms. Stokes has been celebrated for her contributions. She has been honored by Royal Lane Baptist Church for 45 years of teaching Children's Sunday School alongside Theresa Helms as well at Waging Peace Day, and by the Texas Affiliate of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. The American Business Women's Association Dallas Area Council further presented her with an Angel Award. Recognized by the Dallas Independent School District as an Outstanding Volunteer, Ms. Stokes has been featured in numerous publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who of American Women.
